Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
