Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
