Close to 25,000 Experiencing Power in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Storms

Approximately 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast were left without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Extensive Impact

Locals observed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities verified that various areas across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, nearly one thousand energy customers in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled 598 requests for assistance across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Wyndham region - nearly 180 help reports

During the peak on yesterday, more than twenty-eight thousand energy customers in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the wettest day, with continued storm activity predicted across various areas of both regions.

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.
