Police have made public alarming video illustrating a driver performing hazardous drifting maneuvers on a roundabout during an unauthorized vehicle gathering, placing watching crowds at serious danger of harm.
A 23-year-old from Southampton was given a jail term of 27 weeks, deferred for one year, after admitting to reckless operation of a vehicle.
In addition, the judge imposed a 12-month driving ban and ordered unpaid work along with a rehabilitation program.
According to authorities, the recording was captured at an unauthorized automobile gathering in Portsmouth on 28 December 2024, featuring the driver driving a pink BMW.
“The video demonstrates the alarming incident when a dangerous driver drifted around a traffic circle at an illegal car meet, as spectators looked on despite the risk of severe harm.”
Police representatives stated that over two hundred violations involving illegal car meets in the region have been handled in approximately 12 months.
Notable figures from the enforcement effort comprise:
A police sergeant remarked: “Local people, motorists and our roads policing teams have had enough with these groups of drivers thoughtlessly taking over public roads and car parks and we refuse to accept it.”
He added: “They are not only a complete nuisance, but they also put themselves and innocent bystanders at risk of severe harm.”
The statement concluded: “We will continue to take legal action against these drivers and I hope these recent cases serve as a warning: you won’t get away with it.”
