NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage includes live text for the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Additionally, audio coverage can be heard on designated networks for a separate game (from 21:00 BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar and after recent talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being a potential Super Bowl match-up, each lost their unbeaten records.
Striking during those contests was the number of infractions both conceded. Philadelphia did so at crucial times meaning they essentially beat themselves having led by two touchdowns going into the final quarter versus the Denver Broncos, who play in London this weekend.
However it proved good to observe how Denver quarterback Bo Nix was able to have that deficit before lead three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the victory by four points.
Denver have the top defender in CB Pat Surtain II. They are first in goal-line defense, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos prevailed in that battle.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They weren't always sending extra pass rushers but they could position two linebackers in the interior then withdrawing them and dispatch a nickel from the outside.
Early on in the campaign, it was noted on a program that the Broncos might emerge as this season's surprise contenders. They finished the previous year strongly and did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this year's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE Evan Engram has excelled significantly and new RB JK Dobbins is a player the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide for rushing yards (402) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
It's impressive that head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" at the top of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates how the Broncos represent a squad aiming to run first, since you can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush and maintains in favourable down and distances.
It's also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to pass all over, but they don't move the mobility that Nix has. He boasts incredible passing ability, a unique trait, plus he is so athletic.
His strengths include his mobility, the capacity to throw while moving, as well as finding different arm angles to make throws when he rolls outside protection, on rollouts. He can throw precision throws over the middle or past defenders.
For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got great composure in the pocket and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He tries to evade a sack as much as possible and can throw in tight spots. He has a high football IQ and is quick to decide.
If you constantly run the ball it eats up time and forces the defence to be in play for longer, and if you've got a mobile QB the defence has to cover the area downfield and horizontally. It can be draining.
Nix has pushed back with the coach on the sideline sometimes and I think Payton appreciates that attitude, seeing him as such a competitor. I think it's fun for the coach to coach a young quarterback who's similar to play-dough. The coach can truly develop him the way he wants to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach has won a Super Bowl and now surpassed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. I think the success Denver are experiencing on offence is largely down to his leadership, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the combination with the QB helps shape him what he is.
There's no better a more qualified person guiding you, to help you through difficult moments and boost self-belief.
I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to face an elite team at full strength? Because that was not championship-level play from Philadelphia in their last game.
Right now, I don't think Denver are incredible. They're performing above average, which is a good place to be in their division. The key to do is maintain this path.
They're really good at leaning into their strength, which is running the ball, and that's precisely what they must do versus the Jets in London. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five ground scores this season (in the bottom ten), and they are the only team yet to win a game.
Since the NFL started recording takeaways decades ago, the Jets are the first team to go without a single takeaway through five games, this is surprising considering that the head coach was previously defensive co-ordinator with another team.
Patrick Mahomes stated the Chiefs are off to a poor start following Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following this Sunday's game, Denver have a manageable slate up to their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders before the Chiefs.
In their division, the Chiefs hold a losing record and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge at leading the division.
It depends upon what version Kansas City shows up they meet since the Broncos {beat|def
