Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.

Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the main straight.

The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
