The Three Lions to Launch Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated passage for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an English men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the England side for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top Group B, their knockout stage opener would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean starting the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Rally

The event was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the venue by approximately 50 protesters, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to households and help engage a broader range of fans.

Host Nations

The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight played at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

Leadership Comment

“This will be a competition for the supporters and a celebration of everything we value about the sport – its fervor and power to bring people together.”

Over 3 million admissions, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be offered to attendees.
