Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
